Empowering tomorrow’s leaders: Moana Pasifika Young Women’s programme

The Moana Pasifika Young Women’s Programme for high school girls kicked off today, with the vibrant energy of future leaders filling the room. The programme will run for three days and was opened with a special address from PMA Group and Moana Pasifika CEO, Debbie Sorensen ONZM.

Debbie, a proud Pacific woman and leader in the corporate world, shared her own career journey, offering a personal and motivational opening to the day. She spoke about the challenges she faced navigating the business world as a Pacific woman and the pride she holds in staying true to her values, culture, and purpose throughout her path.

“Leadership doesn’t look just one way. Your voice matters. Your story matters. You belong in every room you walk into.”

Debbie shared the lessons she’s learned along the way, highlighting the importance of resilience, cultural identity, and uplifting others as you rise. Her presence set the tone for a day grounded in empowerment and authenticity.

Throughout the programme, the young women will participate in workshops focused on leadership development, self-confidence, and building a strong sense of cultural identity.

The Moana Pasifika Young Women’s Programme is more than an event, it’s a movement aimed at building a generation of confident, capable young Pacific women who lead with heart, cultural pride, and vision.
