Julian Savea becomes Super Rugby’s all-time leading try scorer

Julian Savea has made history in Waikato becoming Super Rugby’s most prolific try-scorer, in Moana Pasifika’s match against the Melbourne Rebels at FMG Stadium in Hamilton.

The lethal machine known as the Bus surpassed Israel Folau with 61 tries throughout his illustrious career.

The try came in the opening minutes of the second half as the Wellington connection between Savea and winger Pepesana Patafilo shined.

Patafilo went one-on-one with the Rebels defence, creating some space on the right edge for Savea to power through for the five points.

The try was converted by fly half William Havili and was the beginning of a tenacious fight by Moana Pasifika, against a Rebels side who held most of the possession in the first half.

Down 19-10 at the end of the first forty minutes, Moana Pasifika came into the second half energised and determined to turn things around.

They chipped away building phases with better precision on attack. But in the end weren’t able to pull through for the win, going down 29-23.

They look ahead to a match against the Western Force next Saturday at HBF Park in Perth.
