Penitoa Finau joins the Moana Pasifika Kāinga

Bay of Plenty Steamers loose forward Penitoa Finau joins the Moana Pasifika Kāinga. The 108kg enforcer is praised for his athleticism, bone-crunching tackles and ability to play anywhere in the back row. The South Aucklander is a product of Wesley College, a school with a rich rugby history. Finau remained in his home province after leaving school, linking up with the Karaka Rugby Club. A strong club campaign earned him selection into the Counties Manukau Steelers in 2013. After a couple of big injuries, Finau decided to head to Portugal and reinvent himself as a player. He played for Tecnico under Counties Manukau Steelers stalwart Kane Hancy where his skillset improved remarkably.

The 27-year old decided to head back to New Zealand with aspirations to play in the NPC again. Finau opted to head to a new province and landed in the Bay of Plenty where he was immediately noticed by the Steamers coaches while playing for the Greerton Marist Club. His form saw him selected in to the 2021 Bay of Plenty Steamers side and he went on to make his debut in round one of the competition against the Tasman Mako. Finau epitomises hard work and resilience and is an exciting addition into the Moana Pasifika team for 2022.
