Chris Apoua was born and raised in Auckland, New Zealand.

Apoua made his NPC debut for the Northland Taniwha in 2016 against Canterbury. He then moved to the Southland Stags from 2018-2021 earning 32 caps. In 2018 he was also plying his trade in Romania for the Timișoara Saracens.

Apoua joined the Southland Stags in 2018, making his debut against Hawke’s Bay. He remained in Southland until 2021 before moving to Northland in 2022.

He began his Super Rugby career with Moana Pasifika in 2022, making his debut against the Blues. The solid front rower made 14 appearances for Moana Pasifika between 2022-2023.

Apoua returned to Moana Pasifika in 2025, adding depth to the forward pack.
