Irie Papuni is another exciting new signing for Moana Pasifika who makes his way to New Zealand from Australia. The Western Sydney Two Blues flanker was a standout in the Shute Shield, debuting in 2022.
At six foot three and 110kg, Papuni is a physical presence on the field, and has the prized ability to cover the second row. The 22-year-old is from the villages of Kolomotu’a & Ha’ateiho in Tongatapu, Tonga. With an opportunity to play and learn from fellow Tongan back rowers Sione Havili Talitui and Solomone Funaki, the former Junior Wallaby will be amongst two of the best flankers in the competition and will be a prospect to watch closely in 2024.
