Halfback
Jonathan Taumateine has a unique skillset ranging from exciting playmaking abilities to physical dominance not often seen in halfbacks. He’s able to lead the team with his high tempo and creative style of play.
He has been part of the Counties Manukau team since 2020 and was selected to represent New Zealand in the 2016 World Rugby Under 20 Championship.
Taumateine made his Super Rugby debut for the Gallagher Chiefs in 2017 who he played for until 2019. This included playing against the British & Irish Lions. He then moved to the Hurricanes in 2020.
The Wesley College old boy set himself apart from fellow halfbacks with his signature physicality, which saw him get his first-class opportunity representing both the New Zealand and Samoa at the World Rugby Under 20 Championship.
In 2021 he made his debut for Manu Samoa in a victory over Tonga.
