Malakai Hala-Nagatai played for the All Blacks under 20’s side at the World Junior Championship and was a part of the Hurricanes Super Rugby U20’s in 2022.

He came through the Manawatū Rugby Academy and made his NPC debut for the team in 2023.

In 2024 he signed with the New England Free Jacks in Major League Rugby, helping them win a championship. He returned to the club for the 2025 season, and was part of the side’s third consecutive championship victory.
