Niko Jones was born and raised in Auckland, New Zealand. He is the son of All Black legend La’auli Sir Michael Jones.

He was a highly touted prospect coming out of St Peter’s College in Auckland. He captained the St Peter’s First XV to a remarkable comeback victory over Napier Boys’ High School to win the National First XV title.

St Peter’s were trailing 0-21 in the first half before surging to win 31-28. Jones’ powerful running game and skill was on full display as he was named MVP for the boy’s tournament. At the end of 2018, Jones signed with the All Blacks Sevens for 2019 and played for the team at the Oceania Sevens competition in Fiji in November. 2019.

Jones bounced back and was named in Auckland’s 2020 NPC team, making his debut against Taranaki. He spent two years with Auckland but due to injuries only played seven games during this time. While with the provincial side, he also trained with the Blues.

He was ready to accept an offer from Old Glory DC in Major league Rugby, before Moana Pasifika called with an injury cover opportunity. Following this Jones joined Moana Pasifika in 2022 and made his Super Rugby debut against the Chiefs in Hamilton.

In 2023 and 2024, Jones continued playing for Moana Pasifika as a replacement player and was named in their development team for the 2025 season.

Jones made his international debut off the bench for Manu Samoa against Scotland on July 18th 2025.
