Solomone Funaki’s outstanding 2023 campaign saw him claim the honour of ‘Moana Man of the Year’, Moana Pasifika’s top award. In a breakout year for the Tongan flanker, Funaki elevated his game not only as a player but as a leader, captaining his side multiple times in 2023. Funaki’s outstanding season showed that the flanker is among the best back rowers in the competition. With a work ethic second too none, every aspect of Funaki’s game is extremely polished. A physical ball runner, an exceptional defender, and an influential leader, Funaki is an invaluable asset for Moana Pasifika in 2024. Funaki attended Liahona High School in Tonga and hails from the villages of Fanga-‘o-Pilolevu (Tongatapu), and Pangai (Ha’apai).
