Outside Back
Ofa was born in Auckland and grew up in Manurewa, South Auckland. He has three siblings and is of Samoan descent through his mother and Tongan descent through his father. He started playing rugby at six years old for Weymouth and made his first representative team with the Counties Manukau Under 18s.
He attended Wesley College and was selected in the First XV in his final two years of school. Ofa’s older brother Simione has also represented Counties Manukau U20s, Tasman Mako and the Western Sydney Two Blues. Through high school, Ofa played at fly-half and then made his way out to the midfield, fullback and wing positions where he plays now.
Ofa is known for his blistering footwork and incredible maturity and work ethic. He joined the Chiefs at the end of 2023 as an injury replacement and went on their preseason tour to Japan, returning and playing some games for their development team. He continued as a replacement player for the Chiefs in 2024 and midway through the Super Rugby Pacific season, Ofa received an offer to join Moana Pasifika for six weeks due to an injury, but he turned down the opportunity to continue with the Chiefs.
An opportunity came up again with Moana Pasifika due to an injury to Neria Fomai. Ofa signed a full-time contract for the 2025 season, and since making his debut against the Highlanders in Round three, he has gone from strength to strength. An attacking weapon on the field, Ofa has impressed with his versatility, blistering pace and quick footwork picking the opposition defence apart.
Ofa’s maiden start in Moana Pasifika’s historic win over the Crusaders was one to remember. He was a menace on both ends of the field and showed his speed on the wing with a remarkable breakthrough which led to a Patrick Pellegrini try.
His performance a month later in his team’s victory over the Fijian Drua was another memorable one. Ofa tallied 91 post contact metres, 188 metres gained, 12 tackles, five defenders beaten, four line breaks and an intercept try. It was a major statement of his arrival in the competition and a sign of a bright future ahead.
In NPC Ofa has been a huge part of the Counties Manukau Steelers, making his debut in 2022 and earning the 2024 Most Valuable Player Award.
