Tuna Tuitama was born and raised in Samoa from the villages of Mulifanua and Faleasiu. He is the second oldest in a family of five children.
He started playing rugby at Mulifanua Primary School and it was during his time at Leulumoega Fou College where he caught the eye of Samoa Rugby Union. Tuitama was a talented high school athletics sprinter in Samoa, transferring his speed to the rugby field. As an aspiring rugby player in Samoa, he looked up to Rieko Ioane.
Tuitama burst onto the World Sevens stage representing Samoa and showcasing his dazzling footwork, physicality and pace.
He’s played 56 matches in his Sevens career, scoring 30 tries and amassing 150 points.
Tuitama was also a key figure in Samoa’s local rugby scene, playing provincially in Samoa’s PPS Super 9 Competition for the Aana Chiefs inboth 15s and 7s. It was with the 7s side that he was then selected for the Manu Samoa 7s squad.
In 2024 he joined Moana Pasifika on a training contract and in the same year made his debut for the Manu Samoa 15s side in the Pacific Nations Cup against Fiji.
In 2025, Tuitama became a full contracted Moana Pasifika player and made a memorable Super Rugby Pacific debut against the Chiefs at Navigation Homes Stadium in Round 6. He came off the bench and played with confidence, was vigorous on attack and showed glimpses of athletic prowess in the open field to catch a pinpoint kick from Patrick Pellegrini to score.
