Tupou Afungia has played for the Tonga Under 16 and Under 20s sides.

Afungia played for the San Diego Legion in Major League Rugby from 2023-2024 and then the NOLA Gold in 2025. In his debut season for San Diego was a standout making 10 starts in 11 mathes and scoring three tries in the regular season.

He also started both playoff games for the Legion, gaining over 500m and finishing with 117 successful tackles during the Legion’s 1501 regular season and championship series push. He helped San Diego make it all the way to the final against the New England Free Jacks.

He has also played for Hawke’s Bay in NPC.
