Sae-Ta’ufo’ou confirms future with Moana Pasifika

A promising young talent who starred in Moana Pasifika’s 2025 campaign, Feleti Sae-Ta’ufo’ou has signed for the 2026 and 2027 DHL Super Rugby Pacific seasons.

The 23-year-old barnstorming prop joined Moana Pasifika as a development player at the end of 2024, coming through the Manawatū Academy and making his debut for the Turbos in 2023.

Sae-Ta’ufo’ou said he’s looking forward to returning to Moana Pasifika next year on a full-time deal.

“It means a lot, I’ve found a home away from home here and I’m excited to be back for another two years,” Sae-Ta’ufo’ou said.

Faith plays a huge role in his life and is the foundation of everything he does.

“I have the opportunity to provide more for my family and have a platform to give glory back to Jesus.”

Born and raised in Palmerston North, Sae-Ta’ufo’ou comes from a family of five children who were always involved in sport.

He was part of the Palmerston North Boys High School First XV and was later named in the Hurricanes Under 20s side.

The proud Samoan and Tongan had to overcome adversity early in his provincial career to recover from injuries, coming back stronger. His incredible strength, scrummaging prowess and commitment to his craft, earned him his Super Rugby Pacific debut against the Western Force in Round One. Since then he became a mainstay in the starting lineup.

Sae-Ta’ufo’ou scored an impressive hat-trick in Moana Pasifika’s win over the Waratahs in Round eight, with Super Rugby Pacific fans recognising him as the Player of the Week.

“Big highlights were definitely debuting and being welcomed into the Moana family,” Sae-Ta’ufo’ou said. “Also running out of the tunnels in front of all our family, friends and loyal fans from all over the country. No matter where we travelled, we had our people showing up for us.”

Head coach Fa’alogo Tana Umaga said: “Feleti has been one of the stories of our season, the epitome of dedication and good character.

“This year he turned up every day and put in the work, showing us what he’s capable of. We’re excited that he’s committed to our future and look forward to being part of his.”

With his career just getting started, Sae-Ta’ufo’ou has showcased the fortitude and professionalism to take him far.
