Dynamic playmaker William Havili has re-signed with Moana Pasifika for the 2025 season.
Havili returns for his fourth stint with the organisation, making his debut against the Crusaders in Round Three of the 2022 season.
Havili has played for the Tasman Mako in the Bunnings NPC and for the ‘Ikale Tahi internationally.
The 25-year-old has become a mainstay in the Moana Pasifika lineup with the versatility to switch between fly-half and fullback.
He’s been instrumental in the team’s growth in 2024, orchestrating some memorable moments on the field. One of those being his 79th minute game-winning try against the Reds in Round 8.
Havili said he’s looking forward to building on his game.
“My goal next year is to keep learning and getting better in the 10 jersey, guiding the team around the park and growing as a player with help from Tana and Jonesy [Stephen Jones],” said Havili.
“It would be a bonus making the playoffs next year which I think is really achievable.”
Havili also expressed his gratitude to the club for helping him embrace his heritage.
“I’ve enjoyed learning little things about my Tongan culture, singing and praying as well, that was all new for me and the boys are really good with that.”
“I’m also very thankful to Moana Pasifika for giving me the opportunity to live out my dream and I hope I’m repaying them by playing some good rugby.”
Head Coach of Moana Pasifika, Fa’alogo Tana Umaga, praised Havili’s development.
“We’re grateful to have Willi back on board with us for another year. He’s demonstrated growth in his game and has become confident in honing his playmaking skills,” said Umaga.
“It’s great for us to have that consistency within our squad for next season and we look forward to watching Willi continue to evolve in his role.”
