Our ambition is to use sport as a platform to raise Pasifika people up through rugby, other sports, businesses, cultural ventures and social programmes. Our mission is to empower Pasifika people and culture.
Designed, built and run by Pasifika people, the Moana Pasifika Super Rugby franchise is unlike any other in the world. We are a not-for-profit, putting everything we can back into our communities. And we want to stay that way. That’s where our Navigators come in.
Pasifika people have always been at our best when we pull together as a family, a village, a community. And now you can help us pull together for all Pasifika people. By becoming a Navigator, you help us to help each other and our communities.

Our Navigator packages are named for seagoing vessels from across Moana Pasifika. The ‘Alia was the great seafaring vessel that was sailed by the elite navigators from Samoa. The Tongiaki is a swift and robust vessel from Tonga, offering adventure and power. The Paopao is steady vessel used for short excursions or family expeditions in Samoa, Tokelau and Tuvalu. The Fautasi is the vessel used by villages in Samoa to demonstrate their power and agility against other villages. As a registered charity, all contributions to Moana Pasifika Charitable Trust are tax deductible.

Moana Pasifika was established to create pathways for our Pasifika people, both on and off the field. Our coaching staff travelled to Fiji to speak to and identify promising young athletes and educate them on the benefits of having a stringent training regime and a healthy food intake. Our Pathways team also visited Samoa and Tonga to present pathways to local talent and gave away training clothes.
After the Hunga Tonga-Hunga Ha'apai eruption and tsunami, Moana Pasifika launched the #OfaAtuTonga campaign which raised $75,000 towards major Tongan relief efforts. The money was spent on medicine and urgent medical supplies & machinery to upgrade the hospital. Moana Pasifika also donated sports equipment and clothing for schools which were shipped over in a container.
Over the past two years, families across New Zealand have been severely impacted by Covid-19 and the subsequent lockdowns. Moana Pasifika teamed up with the Village Community Trust Food Bank to pick and pack parcels for families in isolation and those struggling financially. In addition, Moana Pasifika players delivered parcels and presents to families and young children around Auckland.
Moana Pasifika has launched a new 'Sports Festival' initiative which promotes participation above competition. We held our first event, Teine Toa 7's, which was targeted at Under 15 Girls. Teams were invited to participate in a round robin format with no play off matches or winners being awarded at the culmination of the tournament. Moana Pasifika will hold a different sports festival each month with the focus on bringing communities together and encouraging participation.
